Growth Survey

Voicing Their Concern

Diane Sears | 5/1/2007
Myregion.org has released its final report on a "How Shall We Grow?" survey conducted earlier this year. In more than 7,300 valid responses from seven counties, one clear message emerged: Central Florida residents are not happy with the current growth patterns. However, they were split on how they'd like to see area leaders handle future development. Respondents were asked to choose one of four scenarios.

  • 86.5% said the current growth trend was their least preferred.
  • 38% want to see development of town centers instead of urban sprawl.
  • 31% want to see growth clustered around transportation corridors such as light rail lines.
  • 27% want leaders to set aside environmental protection areas first before developing anything.
